Halal or Non Halal in Canada
As I have mentioned in my previous post, I do not have a problem with Halal foods as a whole. I enjoy eating Lebanese and Iraqi dishes once in a while, and can understand that the dishes served will be Halal. Like if I would be traveling to a Muslim country, I would not have a problem with it, and would be a fool thinking I could find Non Halal foods!.
Where I believe there is a problem is when I am as a consumer in Canada have to buy foods that I do not want, but has to be sold to ''satisfy'' a minority. I do not need to pay extra fees for Halal certification, and I do not need to know that the livestock that I will cook for dinner will have been slaughtered in a fashion I do not agree with. (I find the ''halal ritual'' is barbaric and not wanted by non Muslims)
If I ever decide to retire somewhere in the Caribbeans one day, I surely do not expect the country to be carrying the foods I find here in Canada at every street corner. I will maybe expect to have specialty shops carrying what I love to eat, and will expect to have the burden of paying the extra money for the imported goods or special cuts of meats I would need. (that are not normally used by local families)
I now believe that supermarkets and restaurants will have to give me a choice of buying Non Halal foods and that the price will reflect my choices as a Canadian Non Muslim consumer and I will voice my opinion over this, and fight for my rights.
**It is important to know that many foods are ''Halal'' without being any different than any other foods....a broccoli is Halal .....an apple is Halal.....many foods are just ''simply'' Halal because they are within the rules for Halal.

Non Halal or Haram Foods in Canada
While Canadian Muslims account for 3% of the country's population, more and more Canadians are paying an extra for the Halal certification of their food product.
This blog will be listing products and brands that are known to be Non Halal. While we will try to get the most accurate information about all the different products and brand, there could be some errors at some point. It is always better to double check. Always remember that it is a ''conscience'' choice to buy and eat Non Halal foods, and this blog is not meant to be racist or intolerant towards the Muslims.
